Some stuff I like

Here's the clown that I really like, even though it scares my parents.

I don't really know what this toy is supposed to be--it seems like it's just assembled from parts of dog toys--but I like it!

The Worm of Measurement is probably my favorite thing!

Mom and dad are going to send me to Trained Seal University.

If that doesn't work out, I'll just be a concert pianist. Either way is OK with me.

The clown is fine as long as it never comes back into our bedroom at night

OK, this is a little embarrassing. I can't believe that one of my two favorite blogs (the other being the blog of my 29-year-old daughter, which, by way of sharing AND advertisement, is www.licketyknit.com) is written by an infant--an infant I have never met. In fact, I haven't even met anyone related to her, although I have shared hideous online editing tasks with her father for years now. Her nearly unbearable adorability, along with her exceedingly precocious sense of humor, are irresistible. And I'm not even the kind of person who squeals when a baby enters the room. Not to steal from E. B. White, but I have to say that this is SOME baby!

Thanks, Julie! Now that I've seen this post from your daughter's blog, I'm a big fan. Most people don't have the compassion, energy, or skill to address the critical issue of clothing the world's naked penguins.

For those Riley blog regulars who don't know, Julie is an incomparable writer and editor who works on my favorite material (documenting the takeover of the human body by creatures great and small). If you've been to a doctor, you've benefited from Julie's expertise.

Truly adorable baby. Like my mother, I am not the sort who is reduced to senseless cooing when confronted with a baby, but Riley certainly does inspire a lingering look. My mom is pretty good about not demanding that I produce grandchildren for her, but based on her email to me this morning, your little one has pushed her into that forbidden territory.

Thank you for visiting my blog. You may not realize that the penguin is not an entirely sympathetic character:

I just didn't want you giving me credit for charitable penguin work that I don't deserve.

Well, don't tell Riley that. Your work has inspired her. She's at the library right now, looking up patterns for pengo-smocks.
